Welcome to the Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka

Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka (CRISL) is the world’s first research institute dedicated to research in coconut established in 1929. It has a team of dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative scientists, qualified technical staff, and modern analytical facilities to support research and development. Besides engaging in research, CRISL disseminates the knowledge in all aspects of coconut to the stakeholders of the industry. The Institute promotes collaborative research with other international and National Institutes and Private Sector Organizations. The Institute has eleven Research Divisions and five Service Divisions.

Generate knowledge and technology through excellence in research towards increasing productivity and profitability of coconut.

Crop Protection Division

Synthesize and supply of pheromone vials for the control of Red Weevil

Economics & Agribusiness Division

Generation of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management knowledge to meet the challengers of the coconut industry.

Genetics & Plant Breeding

Develop and supply coconut growers with cultivars capable of producing higher yields with greater tolerance to biotic an abiotic stresses

Plant Physiology Division

Introduce new technologies and provide technical guidance and information to stakeholders.

Coconut Processing Research Division

The mission of the Coconut Processing Research Division is to increase the income from coconut by improving the quality of the coconut products.

Soils & Plant Nutrition Division

Develop cost effective technology for the maintenance of nutrient status of coconut palms and other associated crops by the application of inorganic and organic fertilizer.

Tissue Culture Division

Supply of embryo-cultured Dikiri coconut plants to growers at a nominal rate.

Technology Transfer Division

Build an effective interaction among stockholders, researchers and extension personnel in order to facilitate the development.

Our Services

Analytical services

The CRISL owns well equipped laboratories to analyze your samples i.e Soil, Irrigation water, Plant, and Coconut based food products, and fiber. We issue Differntial Fertilizer Recommendation (DFR) reports for your valued cultivation.

Quality certifications

The CRISL issue cerificates to export coir pith, and certify coconut seedlings of private and government nurseries.

Provision of Planting Materials

The CRISL produce hybrid seedlings for home gardens and CRISL60 for largescale plantations in our seed gardens. We serve in Plus palm selection and Register private nurseries.

Management of Pest and Disease outbreaks

The CRISL assist you in controlling sudden pest and disease outbreaks in Coconut. Additionally we provide Pheramones, Parasitoids and Predatory mites for controlling pests.

The CRISL conduct diverse training programs for Growers, Producers, School childrens, University students and the International community related to varying aspects.
