International Coconut Community (ICC) Delegation Visits Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka
Dr. Jelfina C. Alouw, Executive Director of ICC and Ms. Mridula Kottekate, Assistant Director of ICC visited Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka (CRI) on 6th September 2022.
The main objectives of the visit were to identify the present situation in the coconut industry in Sri Lanka, the impacts of the present economic condition in Sri Lanka on the coconut sector and to discuss the progress of major programs between CRI and ICC.
Mrs. D S Wijesekara – Additional Secretary, Mrs Sureka Attanayake – Director (Policy & Operation), Mrs K M B T Karunasena – Director(Development) from Ministry of Plantation, Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma – Chairman Coconut Research Board, Dr. Lalith Perera – Director (Cover up) & other officials from Coconut Research Institute, Mr. Keerthi Sri Weerasinghe – Chairman, Mr. Sampath Samarawickrama – Director (Marketing), Mr. P. Edirimanne (Director – Processing Development) from Coconut Development Authority (CDA), Mr W. M. Rathnayaka – Assistant General Manager (Training) from Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) gathered at the CRI premises to discuss the required facilitation and support from ICC and other international organizations to develop the coconut sector during the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
