Ten-Year Roadmap and a Five-Year Strategic Plan for the Coconut Sector

A project to formulate a Ten-Year Roadmap and a Five-Year Strategic Plan for the coconut sector in Sri Lanka was initiated in 2025 under the supervision of the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, with financial assistance from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and resource personnel from the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS).

2. The primary objective of this project is to increase export revenue generated from the coconut sector to USD 1.5 billion by the year 2030 and to enhance the annual coconut yield of the country to 4.2 billion nuts.

3. Following several rounds of consultations with all stakeholders involved in the coconut sector, including growers, industrialists, researchers, government institutions affiliated with the coconut sector (such as the Coconut Cultivation Board, Coconut Development Authority and Coconut Research Institute) and other interested parties, the draft roadmap and strategic plan were formulated. The draft prepared accordingly has been published for public comments. The relevant Gazette and the draft can be ownloaded from the link given below.

4. Since your views and suggestions are essential to the further improvement of this draft, you are kindly requested to submit them, in the format given above, either in writing to the Secretary, Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, 11th Floor, Sethsiripaya Stage II, Battaramulla, or by email to smckpdevelopment@gmail.com, or by fax to 011-2186093.
